The Lovers of Laughter, we are the passionate gatherers of fools.
In the breathtaking backdrop of Canada's Circus Capital, Montréal, our community of artist are able to give life to a new festival celebrating the diverse creation of the Clown. Our Goal is to showcase artists both local and abroad, creating a link to communities of Clowns throughout the world.
Founded in 2016, the mandate of The MTL Clown Fest is to create space for all levels of performers to showcase original works that fall under the Clown, Bouffon or Physical Theatre spectrum. Included in the mandate we welcome people of all genders, but are making an effort to increase representation of women-identified, gender-non-conforming and trans performers. With this in mind, we will make an effort to strive for equal and proportionate representation in our space. We are dedicated to cultivating a multi-cultural program, welcoming French, English and Nonsensical Clown Language, as well as a vast multitude of other cultural Tricksters.
Currently associated with Mainline Theatre, Mtl Clown Fest offers three unique spaces for artists to apply for.
This space is open to performers who are passionate practitioners that are young, or new to the style of clown, bouffon and/or physical theatre. We also take new works into consideration for this spot, in order to showcase new materials that has never been seen by an audience. The greatest space to learn the craft is in front of a supportive audience, and our festival wishes to be in the forefront of leading new artists and new works onto the stage.
This space is for well-seasoned performers who have a solid 30 minute performance of original work. We will take new works into consideration for this spot, in order to showcase new materials that has never been seen by an audience.
This space is for polished professional productions, either well toured or newly created.
